At enCourage Preschools, we promote learning and growth for the whole child: mind, body and spirit. We emphasize hands-on learning and learning through play to keep little minds engaged and excited to learn wherever they are. Even at the beach!
Whether you’re a parent of a preschooler at our Pompano Beach, Florida, Preschool Center, Hillsboro, OR, Preschool Center, San Antonio, TX, Preschool Center, or you’re just looking to make summer learning fun for your little one at home, we have some great beach-themed educational activities.
Sand Letter Dig
Hide some letter magnets in the sand at the beach or in a sandbox. Let your little one dig around, find each letter and identify them as they scoop them out. Your preschooler will love this hands-on way to practice letter recognition.
Seashell Sorting
Give your little one a handful of shells and have them brainstorm different categories they can sort them into. Then, let them get to work sorting shells by size, shape, texture, color or anything else your preschooler can come up with! For more fun, use a magnifying glass to get a closer look at what makes each shell unique.
Beach Picnic Prep
Practice some life skills by allowing your preschooler to plan and prepare a beach picnic. Let them choose the menu and help to prepare and pack the food. Then, grab a blanket and head down to the beach, (or your backyard!) and enjoy!
Beach Blanket “What’s Missing?”
As you are lounging on your blanket, set out a few beach items in a row for an easy memory game. Things like sunscreen, sunglasses, a shovel, or anything else you brought along will do. Give your preschooler a chance to study the items, and then have them close their eyes while you remove and hide an item. When they open their eyes, give them a chance to look over the remaining items and try to identify what is missing.
Beach Reads
What’s a trip to the beach without a beach read? Reading out loud to your child has so many benefits such as building vocabulary, increasing attention span and more. Bring along your favorite book or pick up a new, beach-themed book for while you’re out. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister
- The Pout-Pout Fish by Deborah Diesen
- Mister Sea Horse by Eric Carle
- Curious George Goes to the Beach by H.A. & Margret Rey
Preschoolers from Pompano Beach, Florida all the way to Hillsboro, Oregon will love these hands-on, beach-themed learning activities this summer. If you are looking for more ways to keep your preschooler engaged and excited to learn, we are ready to welcome them to one of our Christian preschool centers.
